Sai (7 trips between the mounts Safah and Marwah)

Sai is the 7 trips between the mounts Safah and Marwah commemorating the running of Hajarah in desperation of water for her son Ismail. Today the whole route between Safah and Marwah is enclosed in a long gallery.

It is a Sunnah to be in the state of ablution during Sai. Go to the Safah end and face the Kabah and makes supplications as one wish. Then descend from as-Safah towards al-Marwah. In the portion between two green markers men (but not women) should jog rather than walk, emulating Prophet Muhammad.

Upon reaching al-Marwah again face the Kabah and make supplications. Then continue the Sai toward Safah for the second trip. This is continued for seven trips, ending at Marwah.

After completion of Sai, the man shaves or shortens his hair from every part of his head.

The woman cuts from the length of her hair a length equal to the width of a finger.

With this the rites of Umrah are complete, and one is free from all the restrictions of Ihram.
