The meaning of the word "Islam"

The world "Islam" is derived from the Arabic root "salama", which connotes peace, purity, submission and obedience. The word “Muslim” means "one who submits [to God]".

In the religious sense, Islam means attaining peace through the submission to the will of God and obedience to His law.

The meaning of "Islam" is significant with respect to some Muslim claims regarding prophecies about Prophet Muhammad in previous scriputures.

For example Jeremiah 28:9 talks about "The prophet which prophesieth of peace.."
